Improvements or Changes
I strongly agree about the buildings that have fallen into disrepair desperately needing improvement but I have to say I don't mind black paint. When done right it can be very classy and modern in the best sort of way. I am sick to death of all the ugly, boring, unimaginative TAN that plagues are downtown. I'm still in favor of continuity and trying to work with the historical pallet (no bright, garish colors outside of mural artwork) but even with those rather strict facade restrictions I think there should be room for black, charcoal, and dark grey, especially in trims and detail work.
But a crumbling, ratty building will be an eyesore no matter what paint is slapped on it so I think repairs are in order first.

Thank you D. I so agree. The HUGE elephant in the room that the city of Medford refuses to fully address is that no matter how much more money they spend on downtown, none of it is real progress for their citizens if they don't make our parks and streets safe and clean FIRST. Our downtown areas are over-run with drug addicts and violent criminals. The bike path is atrocious and getting worse. No where seems to be safe after dusk if you are a solo female. What is being done to our beloved city is tragic and it's happening across America. Some cities are managing it and others are adding to the problems with terrible policies and lack of action. Those leaders will always cry "funding!" and that they need just a liiiiiittle more and blame it on the citizens. I say they have enough of are hard earned dollars and they need to do their jobs. Also, invested community members need to keep doing their part. I know many of us are. Volunteering at many of the organizations that are set up to deal with people in crisis, we clean things up ourselves, minister to those that truly are seeking help rather then a handout, and we are the squeaky wheel sometimes when Enough is Enough.
Right now I am shouting from the roof tops that we need parks that aren't littered with needles and a bike path that isn't lined with drug dealers, encampments and all the trash and feces that comes along with them. It's past the point of sad. It's shameful.

I think planting two trees for each one lost would be amazing. You should take this up with the tree committee which operates similarly to a City Commission. You can find info on the commissions here: link

From the city website: "Meetings are typically held the 2nd Wednesday of the month in January, April, July and October at 5:00pm at Lithia & Driveway Park, located at 300 Lowry Lane."
You can email Richard Weed at richard.weed@cityofmedford.org. He is listed as the "Staff Liaison - City Arborist"

Exactly the reason bike lanes should not oppose traffic lanes. They should flow the same way on one-way streets.
Continue to consider use of the railroad right-of-way for a local rail service with stops in downtown. Don't vacate any of the street rights-of-way that can provide public access.
Provide serious incentives to encourage businesses along Bear Creek to open frontage to the Greenway.
Provide as much attractive and safe connection to Hawthorne Park from downtown Medford as possible. Consider adding part of Medford Shopping Center if available.
Improvements or Changes
Consider a pet/bike connection to Hawthorne Park. Wide enough to include lighting and amenities. Hawthorne Park needs to be considered as a serious part of downtown.
Improvements or Changes
Always unhoused in the alley hiding. Very dangerous area
Improvements or Changes
This fountain has a sign that says the water is unsafe and is not very attractive. Being a mother of a young kid and having to tell her we can’t play in the water because it is unsafe is the opposite of creating a family friendly environment.
Improvements or Changes
Add a crosswalk signal. The fact that MPD does pedestrian stings here regularly and we still don't have a signal like that in front of RCC is absurd.
Improvements or Changes
Redevelopment plan needed for areas south of Tenth Street in between Central and Riverside to Barnett.
Improvements or Changes
Create an indoor Food Hall at One West Main bottom floor
Improvements or Changes
so sad that the exterior of the building is often a hang out for people with no place else to go---anytime day or night. It should be a welcoming place for families and seniors not a danger zone. Fix the transient/homeless (or whatever we call it today) problem and you have a shot at improving downtown
Improvements or Changes
Hawthorne Park should be the jewel of downtown--a destination instead of a place to avoid. No family would dare go there at night.

This is an area that needs a lot of love and investment. Forage is a heart beat center of Medford, drawing people in from all around traveling to or from the big cities. They’re view from Forage is of the Oasis and disparaged minute market and Kris’s market

Modern landscaping and trees would make these areas feel more welcome. Also could be some great places to include signage of historical Medford back in its glory days.

Same comment as above. Need to remove these businesses and ban future ones from being established. If you want a vibrant downtown, this is where the work begins.

Improvements or Changes
I agree with the above comment. This is the most run down part of town. Need to push out the weed businesses and have an investment group come in to repurpose the land.
Improvements or Changes
Everything surrounded by a line on this map should be zoned high density multi use as tall as your fire engines will allow.
Outdoor seating would encourage people to roam the library. A couple more food shops/coffee around here would be ideal and have people lingering. Maybe even a smaller park for students to study, or spend time between classes.
Even after this park was revamped, it has never felt safe. Drug paraphernalia has been found inside and around the play equipment, along with human excrement.
Improvements or Changes
Handicap designated parking along 9th alongside the library. General RCC parking here should be limited in some way. Most students are mobile and don’t need close parking, but elders and handicapped do!
Improvements or Changes
Create a food truck area with a tap house and shaded seating.
Improvements or Changes
Create a river corridor walkway with shops, restaurants, bars, and gathering places.
Improvements or Changes
Add shade sails over the music/event venue grass.
Improvements or Changes
Close off main street to pedestrian only between riverside and central. Consider expanding the pedestrian only areas beyond this. Allow street vendors to give the area a "farmers market" feel.
in reply to Aundréa's comment
Also it would help the library have more visitors for longer. I love reading and would enjoy spending more time in the library.
Improvements or Changes
Crosswalks on 6th Street need better striping and curb bulb-outs, this is just one example
in reply to Aundréa's comment
Being able to use the COPR tracks for streetcar or light rail would be so cool! If it ran up and down the valley, it could be a commuting option for people who work downtown but live in Ashland, Central Point, etc.
Improvements or Changes
There are many big parking lots in downtown that should be allowed (or incentivized) to develop to a better use, such as parking on ground floor and apartments above. Here is one example on the waterfront.
Improvements or Changes
More trees and beautification

Public bathrooms/toilets
Improvements or Changes
More shops and restaurants
Improvements or Changes
More affordable housing
Improvements or Changes
12th Street or 11th should extend over the railroad for easy access to OR 99 & Biddle Road.
Traffic flow here is very weird. If coming from Siskiyou, you have to change lanes twice to keep going straight.
Really love the Grower's Market and wish we could find ways to extend that energy throughout the week. Concerts in the park? Community exercise classes in the pavilion? An annual Dog Parade that starts at the Dog Park?
Really exited for the Holly Theater renovation to be completed to have another performance venue in Downtown!
Would love to see cultural events here that highlight the Sister City relationship with Alba, Italy that this park is named after. An Italian food festival? Hazelnut Week? Wine tasting? There is so much potential for this park!
Improvements or Changes
Many 5k's and running events currently start at RCC. It would be great to have them start at Pear Blossom Park and run along the Greenway. Let's make sure there is a wide, accessible, well-lit pathway between the park and the Greenway to facilitate this.
Improvements or Changes
This building has been abandoned for many months. It feels like one of the "gateways to Downtown" and should be treated as such. Does the intersection need to be reworked so that the parking lot is more accessible? What needs to happen to get an exciting tenant in here?
Improvements or Changes
Expand the improvement areas east to make it more accessible and enjoyable for pedestrian access to downtown.
Improvements or Changes
Trees by far improve the streets, real-a-state walkability and rideability and clean the air of C02.
Not sure on the feasibility, but adding a streetcar (or two) that travels along the tracks would be a nice draw to the downtown. It could run from near home goods, all the way to the Rogues baseball field. This would help with parking during the regular day-to-day and would be ideal during larger festivals that close down parts of the downtown (pear blossom, etc)
Improvements or Changes
Grew up loving this park. Now feel very uncomfortable there. Would not take my grandchildren to this park. New laws allow removal of camping, loitering in parks. More focus on mental health and substance abuse support and transitioning is needed. Not a simple solution but it does need to be a focus or downtown improvements may be in vain
in reply to anonymous's comment
Agreed. Some additional green spaces that are monitored would be much nicer instead of the abandoned buildings
in reply to Wren Cable's comment
Agreed. And this bridge is destroyed with profanity graffiti that makes it an area families vehemently avoid
