Agreement
more needs to be done to attract and incubate businesses that build our identity and make our city unique and desirable. we should be encouraging these types of businesses to open and thrive as opposed to giving tax breaks and incentives to large corporations.
Concern
Having large employers within downtown is fine but downtown should not aspire to be a place that people on the periphery of our city should be traveling to for work.
Agreement
kid friendly interactive art could be great to activate more areas of our downtown.
Agreement
murals bring vibrancy to our city espically blank walls more murals are welcome
Suggestion
More street/music festivals, not only on Tejon but other areas around downtown
Agreement
Yes we need a downtown theater and it should support community efforts and the artists of our city
Suggestion
I would be supportive of city auditorium being revitalized as an auditorium but I'd also be supportive of it being reused in many ways. has repurposing it as a convention center been explored? I think adaptive reuse should be explored if there isn't a cost effective and profitable way to make an auditorium a benefit to the city.
Historic preservation is important yet, preservation should not be used to quash progress, growth, increased housing density, or improved public amenities. We do need to keep the historic building that remain since so many have been demolished in the name of urban renewal and blight clearance in the 1960-1990s.
Agreement
I'd love to see a downtown theater come back and focusing on smaller art films would be great.
Agreement
the vacant lots and under underutilized parking makes this area very unwelcoming to walk development and activation at a street level would be very welcome here.
Question
what's happening with the area just west of the train tracks near America the beautiful park?
Suggestion
I'm excited and hopeful for Font Range Passenger rail to become a reality and this could be an exciting redevelopment opportunity if this happens
Concern
the area around the antlers hotel, once the vibrant heart of downtown (1900-1950s) is now underutilized with nearly no street level activations.
Agreement
YES Please, downtown needs it's own grocery store as well as other daily amenities (pharmacy, etc...), downtown needs to appeal to those who live there as well a those visiting or working here.
Agreement
I would like to see mixed use being a requirement for any new residential development. we need ground floor space to be active in order to support a vibrant street life.
Agreement
yes, we need to prioritize building smaller/human scale mixed use housing and businesses. our incentives shouldn't only be to build larger apartments, we need a wide variety of housing sizes and types mixed throughout our downtown
Agreement
public trash/recycling should be more frequent though out downtown including on our urban trails
Agreement
yes more public bathrooms are needed
Agreement
totally I feel like many of the trees that previously existed were not replaced when they died or were damaged.
Suggestion
I believe there should be at least one bike rack every half block throughout the main downtown area along Tejon, Bijou, Kiowa
Suggestion
bike lanes on cascade should continue south of colorado ave
Suggestion
pedestrian challenge, there should be a right turn arrow at Cascade and bijou to protect pedestrians crossing north-south on the west side of Cascade
Suggestion
best roads for bicycle riders to connect East-west bicycle through downtown are not clear, please implement safer bike lanes on Bijou and Kiowa such as those recommended by the Platte corridor study
Concern
Colorado ave bike lanes narrow then disappear completely east of Cascade, improved bike infrastructure and/or wayfinding to navigate to the Pikes Peak ave bike lanes would be welcome here
Suggestion
The Colorado Ave should be the main bike connection to the westside, reducing vehicle lanes and making safer bike lanes would be welcome here.
Concern
connecting from the pikes peak greenway into south downtown/Weidner field is challenging by bike
Suggestion
wider sidewalks and safer (protected) bike infrastructure is needed on bijou connecting downtown to the westside of Colorado Springs
Concern
The median/island at Kiowa and Sierra Madre should have a sidewalk connection across it. Walking into downtown on the south side (but to be honest either side) of Bijou is a challenge
Agreement
yes, disconnected bike lanes make it challenging for everyone except the most confident bike riders to navigate our downtown
Agreement
yes crossing or even walking along wide high speed streets is very uncomfortable and dangerous. slower narrower roads better suit a people friendly downtown.
Suggestion
yes I think scooter and bike share have been great for downtown, I think allowing lime scooters on out downtown urban trail could make connecting into and out of downtown by scooter easier for more riders
Agreement
yes, it has the most destinations in close proximity and we need to take advantage of this rare layout by making driving unnecessary while making walking and biking easy and desirable ways to access our downtown.
Suggestion
improvements to mark the section of Sierra Madre under Colorado Ave as a connection for bikes to access the pikes peak greenway
Suggestion
play space/pocket parks anywhere on cascade between vermijo and cimarron, this is a fairly unwelcoming place for people on foot, some activations or engagement could bring life to this stretch of downtown.
Suggestion
better activation of open/under used space such as this un used plaza in front of the antlers hotel
Suggestion
better activation of open/vacant space such as this grass just south of Colorado Ave on cascade blvd
Concern
better activation of the median/island at Kiowa and Sierra Madre, walking into downtown on the south side of Bijou is a challenge
Suggestion
Making this America the beautiful park/midland trail connection a clear trail gateway to south downtown and make it clear how to easily connect to destinations
Suggestion
I'd love to see creekside dining and activation included as part of the revitalization of the former drake site
Suggestion
Costilla is the main east west bike corridor in south downtown, making this a clearly marked link between midland trail, shooks run trail and the pikes peak greenway would be helpful
Suggestion
More can be done to highlight the Pikes Peak Ave shooks run trail connection
Suggestion
Clear markings/wayfinding for how bike riders can pass east to west through downtown. Implementation of bike lanes on Bijou/Kiowa as identified in Platte Ave Study
Suggestion
Highlight Pikes Peak greenway connectivity to Cascade ave/downtown at CC/Mesa Rd
Suggestion
Legacy loop connection at boulder crecent
Suggestion
yes we need to take more advantage of downtown's proximity to Monument and Fountain Creeks. This shouldn't only be viewed as a recreational amenity but an amenity for all, I imagine Creekside dining among other opportunities to activate our waterways
Agreement
More 3rd spaces and engaging public spaces for the community to gather are welcome and needed in downtown.
Agreement
yes, I think the more we can activate any of the public space (especially the small under utilized spaces) and make it more inviting and engaging for people the better
Agreement
yes more kid friendly features such as small play structures or interactive art would be great to attract families downtown
Agreement
Totally agree, connections from the legacy loop and the midland trail into the downtown on street network needs to be clearly marked and easier to navigate as a complete system. building a clearer and easier to navigate connection at the Monument Valley Formal Gardens/Boulder crescent would be a great improvement to connect the Pikes Peak greenway to downtown, not just around it.
Agreement
Thank you for cleaning up this part of our city, and making it feel safe again.
