Question
Is this the updated design on this site?
Is there another opportunity for the public to make known the changes they'd like to see before Nov 24?
I have recently purchased a commercial building on Main Street. I am excited about the project. The current Main Street layout is ugly, uninviting and not easy on the eyes. The downtown desperately needs to be revamped to make Main Street more inviting & esthetically pleasing to attract new businesses to fill the empty store fronts and to bring people back downtown. The bulb outs at the intersections really add depth & texture to Main St. If left as is the downtown will continue to decline. I would ask that you look at your zoning & makes necessary changes so some of those large empty building could be developed into condos/apartments along with commercial/retail/restaurants on the first floor. Mixed use would give developers more option. Do not allow office space on first floor of Main St so the city can collect needed sales tax revenue.
Concern
Intersections at 11th at 12th of main have a lot of semi truck activity. Deliveries to pizza hut, tanker trucks to Sinclair as well as semi trucks hauling vehicles to Hellmann's use these Intersections turning onto main as well as turning onto Meeker St. and being a resident I've noticed too often when those white pole markers were out in the bulbouts, trucks were unable to make a right turn without wiping out those makers or having to hold up traffic to back up and make a wide enough turn hitting the median in the process.
Concern
turn lights on all lights so people can get off main street during busy times
Concern
again, leave all parking. spruce up what we have and leave the spaces alone. on main parking is very important to businesses.
Concern
this design does not work. taking away all of the parking and adding trees/shrubs to median is not maintenance or cost effective. auto dealership needs seen not hidden. parking is key and should not be taken away. Looks great but not what businesses want and should not be changed for looks. Current conditions are functional. let it be functional.
Suggestion
COLOR! COLOR! and more Color!
Concern
How about more than 15 seconds on the crosswalk signals for seniors and disabled people? No wonder we've all been hit or almost hit on main!!!
Concern
We have not received any information about this except from other community members. Our parking is on 8th Street West. It is the only access to our property, and our parking lot. The 30% drawings show landscaping blocking our access into the parking lot.

Obviously, that doesn't work for us.

I did send an email earlier this week, but didn't get a response. It was to Joe.

I just want to make sure that our feedback is being heard.

Thank you!
Concern
Do not take any more Main Street parking away. Need all we can get and while it is not a lot it does help bring business to our town.
Concern
You should really think of the First Responders before you push corners out further creating a tighter turning radius. The larger Fire Trucks barely make to corners as they are now along with school busses. Both struggle to turn off of main when there are vehicles stopped in the opposite lanes. The changes should help those in the community function more efficiently, not hinder those who are saving your property in the even of a fire or transporting your children.
Concern
Our Main Street parking is vital to our business. With the one lane it is much safer now. Please allow this to continue. Thank you!
Please preserve the on street parking already here. Adding trees in the median between 10th and 11th will help calm the traffic.
The sidewalk between the alley and Main on the south side of 5th street needs to be replaced. Please consider the slope and level with the street to match the level of the building floor. This facilitates entrances on the side street that are level with no steps.
Feel Unsafe
There needs to be turn arrows at the 4 main street stop lights. The steady stream of traffic in a single makes it nearly impossible to turn left from main onto 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th streets, forcing you to drive fast and take chances. Why didn't you just lower the speed limit and enforce it instead of spending all this taxpayer money making downtown dangerous for all, I never see a police presence on main like there was 20 years ago. I've never seen a bike in the bike lane, only cars driving and double parked. It's dangerous at the hwy 92 intersection, if it has to stay 2 lanes, make drivers aware that the right hand left turn lane from 92 to main, ends abruptly, before they even turn. We finally got a double turn lane from 92 to main and then this project immediately happened making the double turn lane pointless and keeping traffic backed up on hwy 92. You should offer a comment type that is an opposition instead of only offering support, concern or feeling unsafe, but you'd receive too many people that oppose it I suppose.
Keep the bump outs at corners with minimal landscaping to avoid high maintenance costs. Incorporate a plan for sweeping street at least once a week or more often as needed. Maximize available parking by avoiding extensions of curb in the middle of blocks. Trees can be clustered around the corner extensions if they do not block view or access of business facades. Style of signage and permanent fixtures should continue Delta's architectural theme of authentic western town. Current light posts are an example. Use 3000K lightbulbs when possible for the friendly vintage feel.
Suggestion
Future projects involving downtown commercial building water distribution and lead pipes are topics that should be an open discussion with business owners now.
Feel Unsafe
South Main Street and intersection does not feel safe. It jigs and jogs as it swings into north bound Main Street. It’s crazy coming from the bypass at 45 mph and vehicles think they can maintain that as a merge speed in to Hwy 50 south.
Concern
Delta County residents are avoiding Main Street and using residential side streets to maneuver about town. Those side streets are in terrible condition without increased traffic. Also, downtown businesses need that luxury cal traffic and exposure to attract sales.
Concern
I observed a full sized motorcycle reved up speeding over the limit past me in the bicycle lane. This could be hazardous to someone exiting their parked vehicle.
Concern
Intersection of Hwy 92 and 50 configuration is confusing and dangerous. Businesses in that area stated that daily they witness accidents or almost accidents. In addition they feel that the changes have negatively affected their business sales. Also, we invite tourism to our county, however that intersection and the 1 block notice of entering a situation of 1 lane of southbound traffic is very challenging for a 40 foot travel trailer/towing an excursion vehicle.
Suggestion
My recommendation is that the focus of this city highway project begin at the north entrance of Hwy 50 bridge. The river corridor is of vital importance to the development and promotion of Delta services, business, and visitor access.
Can DDP be provided a copy of Delta Main Street Improvements -

Thank you!
Reached out to Pagosa Springs in regards to their Main Street Project. 4 blocks Streetscaping to include CDOT paving 10 blocks of Main. The PS Main Street Advisory Board has met once per month for for 12-months to help inform the businesses prior to construction. They are working with CDOT who has provided them with a Public Information Officer. The PIO is helping them with Social Media, postings on the SW CDOT FB and a Project Hotline.
Please provide information on CDOTS plan to repave Main US 50 and the plans to vacate the water Main on Main Street and relocate it to the alley's. This could be a double rami to the businesses. Loss of Sales and Loss of Sales Tax to the City.
Please keep in mind that Downtown Delta Partnership has been approved by History Colorado to submit an application for a Downtown Historic District to be on the National Register of Historic Places. The DDP Historic Preservation Committee has defined the period of Downtown to be a tradition western town 1881-1920. We would hope that the Main Street design/plan will embrace that theme.
We request that the City will provide information regarding CDOT's plan to repave Hwy 50 Main Street and when they plan to start. Several concerns are being raise by Main Street businesses.
1. Main Street Revitalization 2. CDOT's plans to repave Main 1st through 13th? 3. City's plans to vacate the water line on Main and report to the alley's. All are a potential concerns and could be detrimental for businesses to provide service to the public. Loss of Sales revenue and loss of sales tax revenue for the city.
Question
I'd love to see a vibrant downtown with lots of thriving businesses. I feel many of the residents of the area don't support the downtown revival and, as a relatively new resident, I'm not sure why. This city has a prime location on Western Colorado and could be a hub for outdoor enthusiasts.
Concern
Agree with Becca that Main Street, because it is a state highway, is not conducive to outdoor dining. I'm not sure what the solution is (I don't think spending money on these particular bulb-outs is a great idea) but I would not choose to eat outdoors at any restaurant on Main other than A&M Creations, where they have tables out back.
Suggestion
I think working within the existing palette makes the most sense.
Support
The location of Delta, between Montrose and Grand Junction, right on Highway 50, is perfect to become the hub of Western Colorado. We are only an hour from Black Canyon NP, Colorado National Monument, and Ouray. We're at the base of the largest flat top mountain in the world. Agriculture is integral to Delta County but tourism could be as well. Many younger families own homes and properties here and would like to see the area thrive.
in reply to Becca Butler 's comment
Oops. Bulb outs.
Support
I like the intersection bump outs. And believe that they make pedestrians more easy to see, and that drivers are more likely to twice before turning.
Improvements or Changes
Well I like this design the best, I do not think that outdoor seating is very successful in our town. Main street is very loud and vehicles emit unpleasant fumes. That being said, our current downtown situation is quite unappealing and dumpy. I don't think I would be interested in stopping if we were driving through. I might stop down by City Market to eat something but I don't think I would stop on Main Street to explore. I commend you on recognizing that revitalizing our downtown area may bring in more revenue and more visitors.
Support
I like that the planters create a barrier between Main Street and those who are dining. The design that has a fence is also nice but planters provide a type of privacy break.
Support
This design is most appealing to me. I believe that the morelandscaping that is displayed and used will draw visitors in and make them interested in stopping. My family visited St George, Utah a couple of years ago and they have planters and native plants and grasses all over town. It was so inviting and made me want to explore their entire historic "touristy" area.
Favorite
I support this design more than the others. I think that adding the shade tree over the seating area will be helpful. The existing tree can provide some shade during the super hot afternoon. Adding a second tree there will make it much more inviting and draw people in to take advantage of the seating.
Concern
No outdoor seating at all. Who wants to eat out there with all the car fumes going into your food. Its also an eyesore and it's hard for people turning right off side streets to see. Its unsafe
Agreement
I love this idea but again the homeless are going to ruin it
Agreement
More plants! More trees! Make the homeless go back to grand junction so they stop ruining it
Feel Unsafe
There is barely any parking now. And the families who go to vision, never have parking to drop off or pick up children ( you have to walk them in and out) because there is no parking already and everyone else parks there
Concern
The yellow cone things are tacky and ugly. Huge eye sore. The last time they were up, I saw people hitting them on purpose. No reason for them
Favorite
Love the feeling of the historic street lights and lightning and keeping more of a dark sky vs. bright up-lighting.
Suggestion
Having strategic raised planted areas as opposed to full sidewalk adjacent plantings would be more conducive to less water usage and maintenance. Infrastructure would need to be included to service these planters. Using native plants and grasses would be less water hungry.
Heart of Downtown
Parking is critical for access to Main Street businesses and keeping as many parking spaces in front of businesses would be ideal with the addition of some side street diagonal parking as is currently being done.
Suggestion
In keeping with the historic western town keeping the palate exisiting vs. contemporary would be ideal. Period lighting vs. modern would be better and more historic looking seating and plantings would be great. We know water is a consideration so strategic plantings that are low maintenance both water-wise and labor wise would be better with concentration being in the core vs. outside the 1st - 6th area.
Suggestion
It would be great to capitalize on being a Historic Western Town and incorporate that concept into the design elements. Historic Tourism is very popular and in keeping with that theme would draw visitors to the area that are interested in visiting AUTHENTIC looking town.
Suggestion
I would like to see the historic corridor pushed out to before the bridge so that the “gateway” gives travelers a little more warning and there are additional historic properties located in the 1 & 200 blocks of Main St.
There is efforts moving forward toward a Downtown Delta Historic District from 1st - 6th with inclusion of several other buildings on the National Historic Register. It would be advantageous to have this change in the plan.
Suggestion
I think you have no clue that this is not Boulder. Much of the population is older and needs to be able to park in front or very close to businesses or we can't shop there. The first update with bike lanes was a disaster and I do not think many people liked it. The bump outs took away much of the parking so I do not shop in Delta near as much as I would like to. I want to support our local businesses but having pretty trees and no parking does not work. Please stop thinking it is cute to make Delta into a walking town. We need all of the parking back that the first go around took away. I have actually never seen even one cyclist downtown. Putting a slab of grass in the median looks ridiculous and will take maintenance. It is extremely hard to see what the pictures show since they are too small but what I believe I see is a bunch of trees taking many parking spaces not just on Main Street but the side streets. I don't think there is even room for some of the delivery trucks. Spending all this money on something that once again won't work is almost criminal and I feel for the local businesses. At the same time the sidewalks are in horrible shape...why not do some needed improvements rather than gingerbread cute trees that give us little room to park. You will be putting businesses out of business and the last few years have hurt businesses bad enough. Try thinking first please. Who really wants to sit out in the traffic and smell the fumes? I would think you would be in big trouble with the disabilities groups too.
I don't understand why some think the bike lanes are dangerous? HOW are they dangerous? I like them, since if no one is riding in there & I need to turn right, I can utilize the bike lane space to get out of the way of traffic & make my turn; so they don't need to brake very much to get past me!
ALSO, I very much hope you keep the One-Lane-each-way on Main St! It's been MUCH safer for getting out of our cars! I understand young people want to rush hither & yon - I was young once too. But when THEY get older, they'll understand wanting things to be safer!
Main St is NOT there for you to exceed the speed limit & pretend it's a race track! People live & work on it.
ALSO, I feel that the snide, overly critical comments should be kept to yourself; make constructive suggestions or be quiet. Not everything is going to be to everyone's satisfaction - it's impossible. Unless you are a city engineer, budget expert, or construction expert or have worked for a city in that capacity, you don't know what you're talking about & neither do I. You must accept that everything will not be perfect & unless you have millions of dollars to contribute, understand that Delta has budget constraints!
